“I try to compress moments in time and place to a penultimate state. My work takes hours of planning and preparation yet only represents a few seconds of my existence.” Ross Holden 2018
A series of 19 paintings and 2 new silk screen prints have recently been released seeking to capture the essence of a passing moment in time. Having previously worked primarily within the photographic medium, this is a new direction for Holden in which he compresses memories into their simplest form, a single colour. Each colour represents a moment in time never to return again but still vivid in the artist’s mind and able to invoke the emotions and feelings of that particular place, person or situation. The patterns, as well as the memories, were collected on travels around the globe and the product is an intricate and precise yet jumbled effect which explores the juxtaposition of chaos and order in everyday life.
